A Time To Rest
“Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and so that the slave born in your household and the foreigner living among you may be refreshed (Exodus 23:12)."
Today June 21st represents the beginning of Summer, the warm season between spring and fall. It is the time when the sun is most active providing warmth and where nature gets energy. It is an opportunity to get outside and to enjoy all the beauty derived as the earth awakens from the sleep of winter. Perennials begin to peek from under the soil after months of lying dormant, it is an opportunity to behold the beauty of the Lord.
Summer is also a good time for Sabbath. It is a time where God is saying you can kick back and rest. Unfortunately, daily demands suggest work harder, move faster, stay busy. But God is saying yes work “six days shalt thou labor (Exodus 20:9)” but take some time and rest. It was one of His commandments “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). Remember the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27).
As you plan your summer remember life is more than work and toil. Take some time to stop, to breathe in the air of summer, to see the beauty all around you and to look up and thank God for the warmth of the sun!
