The Prayers God Answers
“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.” (Matthew 6:6-7)
There she goes again, that repetitive preacher. Yes, but hopefully you’re beginning to see through this theme of prayer. There is much to be considered. Previously, I intimated an approach and a method to prayer but that deserves further discussion.
Jesus spoke of not being hypocritical, preaching one thing and doing another but He also says, “do not keep on babbling like pagans.” Hypocrites don’t practice what they preach while pagans are people holding specific religious beliefs usually based on their nation and customs. The King James version refers to pagans as heathens translated from the original language it means those who have adapted to the customs of their own people and not necessarily the teachings of Christ. Neither hypocrites who don’t practice what they preach and pagans who follow the customs of their nation cannot expect to get any answers from God.
Jesus said, “But when you pray, ‘go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen.’” Jesus said, that when you pray, shut out the world (the door to your soul, the place where your spirit resides), close the door (don’t allow any external disturbances) and then offer your petitions to God. These are the prayers that please God and these are the prayers that get answers.
