The Meaning of Life

“Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.” (Ecclesiastes 12:9)

King Solomon was one of the wisest and richest kings in Old Testament history and yet with all of his successes, he sought for the meaning and purpose of life and after careful and thoughtful examination he finds it. Logically we can understand that one does not gain knowledge all at once and it is not innate but through experience. Solomon demonstrates such progression when he wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. In it he shows us a perspective of life from human eyes based on his experiences and after careful examination he came up with one conclusion and that conclusion was the importance of having a foundation that is firmly rooted in God, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13) Such wisdom leads to a life with less focus on the acquisition of power and things and placing more focus on what really matters — the things that really bring life.We all have the ability to gain wisdom and in following the example of King Solomon, we may find that he is absolutely right!
