Thanks

“For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-24Holy Communion, the Eucharist, the Lord’s Supper, the Divine Liturgy, a solemn ceremony practiced by most Christians representing the sacrifice Jesus made to pay our sin debt. As we look at His sacrifice let us not miss what is occurring here for it is something we all should consider in light of Thanksgiving.Jesus was about to be betrayed yet He sat with His disciples, the Last Supper, took bread, gave thanks, and broke it. Saying “this is my body, which is for you…” “Gave thanks”? In the face of death He gave thanks? Who does that and why? For one reason, love!! Jesus’ expression of thanks demonstrates that not everything in life is joyous and yet God not only allows it, it is His will.Whatever you are experiencing as you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, as you welcome family and friends, as you review the past year, the good and the bad, in the ups and downs “give thanks”. You see, Jesus’ thanks wasn’t about the horror He was about to experience but it was about the joy that was to come (Hebrews 12:2) where He now sits at the right hand of God interceding on our behalf. What amazing grace He has given us!!“In everything give thanks”.
