Rest
“Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over (Matthew 26:14-16).”Not much is known about day four of Holy week but it is perceived to be a day of rest and the day Judas agrees to betray Jesus (Matthew 26:14-16). Jesus had an important task ahead of Him which would require much strength and endurance. He would be arrested, placed on trial, convicted, mocked, spit on, struck, and then carry His cross to the hill Golgotha. We mustn’t forget that Jesus was fully human as well as divine. In His humanness He experienced, pain, humiliation, frustration, and tiredness just like us and humans need rest. Knowing what He was going to go through He was going to need strength to fulfill God’s plan.We all have our crosses to bear, a burden, some trial we may go through. The cross represents the burdens and the difficulties we face. Jesus said that if anyone should come after Him let Him deny Himself and take up his cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). However that is not the end of the story.Jesus did what He had to do to secure our eternal salvation. In human form He demonstrated not only the will but also the ability to stand in the midst of adversity and false accusations and so can we if by faith we trust and depend on His power that resides in all who believe.
