Pardon me, God!

“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian (Judges 6:13).”

Is it wrong to ask God questions? In my Christian walk I have had lots of questions that I wanted answers too and I have asked God these questions. However, as I’ve come to understand God a little better, I realize that, yes, it’s okay to ask God questions but we must also be ready to hear His answer.

It was out of a lack of understanding that Gideon questioned God. The Israelites were suffering because of their disobedience and they cried out to Him out of their suffering. The Lord did answer but it would be several years before relief would come and Gideon would be the one whom God called to lead the charge. The Lord doesn’t answer Gideon’s question but gives him a directive.

In my faith journey I’ve come to grasp that we can over complicate things by our lack of understanding. We are made in the image of God, not the other way around. God created us, we have not created Him and it is when we begin to consider ourselves in some small way equal with God that we question His actions. God doesn’t owe us answers yet in His great mercy He hears and answers us.

We will never ever be able to fully comprehend God and I say that on good grounds because, should we be able to understand Him fully, it would make us like God and the Bible states this in a very direct way, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).”

So, ask your questions but listen for His answer.
