Once and For All

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,  by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,” Hebrews 10:19-20Doing the same thing over and over again is monotonous. Whether you know it or not, everyday there are things we do without giving it any thought. Whether washing the dishes, taking out the trash, cleaning the house, etc., these are things that are done out of necessity and not out of desire. As rudimentary and routine as these repetitive tasks are, there is a level of importance to get them done. Before Christ priests were mediators and they made intercession for the sins of the people. Year after year, they would enter the Holy of Holies, the most sacred part of the temple to atone for the nations sins. Each year the priests drew lots and one priest would enter this holy place and continued this task until Christ’s sacrifice. Entering the holy place was a repetitive task but a most necessary and dangerous task because if the priest were found with sin, they would die once they entered and dragged out of the temple. They were the mediators between God and the people, they would offer the sacrifice for the ongoing sins of the people. It was a matter of life and death. Thanks to our Lord we no longer need that intercessor. We can enter into the Holy Place because once and for all, Christ’s death, His blood, removed the curtain of separation. It is the confidence we have because of what He has done. Now, we can go to God directly, a task that is a privilege and should be done often but not only out of necessity but out of the love and life that has been given to us.
