Nuture Your Heart

“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it (Proverbs 4:20-23).”

Yearly physical exams include gathering information on your entire body. Lab and other tests are often completed prior to the exam to provide a more thorough examination. All of this is to provide an accurate overall assessment of our condition. It helps in informing your doctor of how you’re doing. But did you know there are similarities with a physical exam to a spiritual exam?

Solomon encourages such. Notice in just three verses (Proverbs 4:20-23) he mentions the ear, the eyes, and the heart. From the ear we hear the word of God, from the eye we are able to see not only the word but see the wisdom found in His word. And it is in the heart that we cultivate and nurture the word of God. If there is any lack in any of them it is an opportunity to make changes to sustain healthy spirituality.

Our physical health and spiritual health are intertwined and it is when you address both that you can have wholeness in your mind and in your body.
