Lifeguard

January 28, 2019“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Galatians 1:3-5Swimmers exercise certain techniques to keep them safe in the water. No matter how confident one may be it is always wise to ensure certain precautions are taken. It is suggested that you swim with a buddy, make sure a lifeguard is present, stay out of the water if you’re tired, cold or overheated, follow the posted rules, and obey the lifeguard. These rules are considered standard but how often does one choose to know better than those who have studied and tested a procedure to make sure they produce the best outcome?

God’s word provides direction for life yet many think they know better than the One who created the universe, the One who knows all things, and more importantly the One who knows all about you. In the first chapter of Galatians, Paul acknowledges Christ came to “rescue us from the present evil age” and while this is true, He admonishes the church at Galatia for turning to something different, to something that would ultimately result in destruction. Sadly this can be said of believers today. Jesus said in John 8:31-32, “if you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”God’s word is true and most importantly trustworthy. Even good swimmers can drown and if this is true (and it is), good Christians can too!!©2018-2019 Mamie Johnson Ministries
