He's Here

“Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”Jesus has ascended and now the disciples wait. There were a lot of emotions swirling around the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. He has fulfilled God’s promise to send a redeemer and now Jesus has been resurrected and ascended into the heavens. So now what? They wait!Experiencing wondrous moments and hearing the Lord’s direction or promise fills us with expectation. The disciples had seen Jesus’ power, His ability to raise people from the dead, to heal by just speaking a word, to make healing salve out of mud and cause a blind man to see, to call out demons, to quiet storms, to feed with little sustenance, so why wouldn’t one wait when someone with that kind of power tells you that you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you?As Christ’s disciples He gives us unique gifts and we are to use those gifts according to His will. Therefore, it’s important not to become impatient and get ahead of God lest you seek to operate in your own strength or think it is because of who you are that God’s will is being accomplished. When you wait on God you are aligning yourself with His timing and allowing Him to not only work in you but also to work in whatever He may be calling you too. God’s timing is not always our timing and we must, just like His disciples, learn to patiently wait and depend on Him to accomplish the objectives He has set.The disciples went back to the place where they had their last meal, where Jesus washed their feet, where they had communion together, where He appeared after His resurrection, back to Jerusalem in the Upper Room and they waited until the Holy Spirit came. We no longer need to wait; it is here present living inside of all who believe. So, what are you going to do with it?
