Dream Big

“Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”Genesis 28:10-12In an article in Psychology Today it is hypothesized “that everyone dreams, but a small subsection of the population reports that they never remember experiencing dreams”. Dreams can appear real especially when there are representations of people and places that are familiar to you. But what about the dreams you have for your future; God inspired dreams that cause you to consider that what you experienced may actual be real?Jacob was running from his brother Esau He had deceived Esau and thus received the blessing intended for Esau resulting in Jacob becoming a fugitive as he fled his father’s household. When the sun had set Jacob lay down and went to sleep and as he slept he had a dream and in his dream the Lord spoke to him.God can speak to us in many ways but the only way you will know if it is Him is through a developed relationship with Him. Jacob had not developed the relationship with God like his father Isaac or his and grandfather Abraham so discerning the will of God was going to take time and effort (see Genesis 28:20-22).Jacob’s story is a relatable one because each of us has opportunity to hear from God but we must exercise the effort to know and discern His voice. Does He speak in our dreams? According to the prophet Joel He does; “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions” (Joel 2:28).” But don’t miss what it will take, the Holy Spirit abiding on and in you.If God has given you a dream, a goal, if you have a vision for the future there should be no doubt that He will bring it to pass. Jacob’s dream may have inspired him but his goal to return home was going to take hard work.Take a page from the life of Jacob and keep pushing toward your goal and just like Jacob don’t let go until you receive the blessing that God has for you.
