Cry for Justice

“I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds (Jeremiah 17:10).”Waiting for justice is unbearable. Time seems to stand still as we wait for vindication, for justice, for what is right. This was the message of Amos the prophet who lived in the kingdom of Judah and who preached about social justice, God’s omnipotence, and divine judgment. They were the major theme of all of his preaching. You can but imagine that his message wasn’t popular and a great burden to him but he preached it. He spoke against the privileged people of Israel, people who didn’t love their neighbor or took advantage of others. As Christians this is disparaging because we know that it doesn’t align with God’s expectations of His people. As children of God, we too should have the same burden of Amos.God has not changed. He is a God of love, justice, repentance and restoration. “Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream (Amos 5:23-24)!”
