Above All, His Word
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).”Devotionals are a great way to receive encouragement but if you really want to feel encouraged, supported, and confident you must first begin by looking within yourself. If you’re constantly belittling yourself and finding things that you don’t like about yourself it will be difficult to be encouraged. Devotionals offer an opportunity to see things differently and to hear a message that is supportive and understanding.Too often people look at their external selves to establish self-worth. The problem with this is that often these comparisons are made based on some world standard instead of on the one who made us. Devotionals motivate but it is the word of God that speaks most loudly because it is God who made you and loves you unconditionally without comparison to anyone. While devotionals may not be doctrinal nor theological they are encouraging and hopefully lead you to desire a deeper understanding of God and His word. That can only be done through His word. Therefore, don’t always look for catchy words and great sounding phrases. Look to the author and finisher of our faith, the one who wrote the truth and shared it with everyone, seeking to encourage you not only in faith but also in life.
