A Healthy Heart
“Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John4:8).”According to The Center for Disease Control “heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. In the U.S. one person dies every 37 seconds from cardiovascular disease”. Such wary numbers demonstrates that heart disease should be taken seriously with causes ranging from congenital heart defects to high blood pressure, diabetes and more. It’s is clearly evident that the heart is vital to life as it is responsible for pumping life-sustaining blood and we know that without the function of the heart supplying blood to the body we would die. If this is true of the physical body consider the men and women who suffer from spiritual heart disease. As Christians when we think of the heart we contemplate the heart of God; a heart that burns for souls. It is what is in our heart that will guide our actions.God’s heart seeks His purpose, one that longs for Him, a heart that is concerned for all people. Because of God’s love for us (His heart), He sent His Son (His blood) as a sacrifice to redeem us from sin that would result in spiritual death (John 3:16). The result is reconciliation and a promise of eternal life.A spiritually healthy heart loves without conditions, forgives others of hurts, doesn’t harbor bitterness, is not afraid to reach out to those less fortunate, and makes the effort to spend time with the Lord daily. There is a place where we can touch everyone and that place is found in the one who has the heart of God.
