A Cause for Concern

Are you concerned about the generations to come? You should be. All of the deeds taking place today will have an effect to our children’s children. Consider the daily news; cheating scams, subpoenas, child abuse, disease outbreaks, threatened impeachment, climate change, nuclear weapons, murder, divorce, uncoupling, cyber bullying, partisanship, racism, fraud, etc. What legacy are we leaving for those who will come after us?Young immature eyes are seeing the example we are setting today. How can we expect them to navigate in an unknown future? Can you say that you represent a godly example of compassion and care, consideration for our fellow man, concern for the widows and poor among us? We are not ok if the world is not okay. There is a direct impact either directly or indirectly if we close our eyes and refuse to see the destruction all around us.The prophet Amos addressed similar occurrences during his day. The concerns of his day remain relevant today. Israelites were oppressing the poor and not practicing justice, they were behaving unrighteously. Social justice was at the core of God’s message and that is what Amos preached. So what can we do about it? Start where you are.You can’t do anything about the past but you can, right now, right where you are begin to teach fairness and justice. You can exhibit kindness and love in very simple and realistic ways. C.S. Lewis said, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. Isaiah 1:17
