“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. Matthew 11:28

“Take a big breath, inhale, exhale, again”, “inhale and now exhale”. These were the instructions as I lay on the table seeking to enhance health via a therapeutic massage. As I lay on that table in the quiet solitude of non-descript music and subtle aromas my mind did not want to rest. I began thinking about all of the things I needed to get done, things on my to do list and the ongoing meandering(s) of my mind, rest was eluding me. This encounter made me think about how many times I’ve encouraged others to let go of things and to trust in the Lord. It’s harder than we think!

After God created the universe He rested (Genesis2:3). He reminded the children of Israel to rest in Exodus 20:8-11 and Jesus also rested (Mark 4:35-40) so why do we grind and grind without taking a moment to stop and rest?

Rest is not an idea it is a command “Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy”. When we don’t take the time to stop and regenerate, to rest, our body and spirit suffers but those around us suffer at the hand of irritable people who have shunned rest. So, learn to set boundaries, take some time and pull away from the hectic pace of the world and follow His command and “rest”!
