“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9=10
So today I took on an extremely frustrating task, folding a fitted sheet. Now I have done laundry for years and have had fitted sheets for as long as I can remember. It was so difficult that I ended up rolling them up in a ball and stuffing them in the closet. So instead of my normal routine I decided that I was going to go up against this annoying chore and conquer it once and for all. Well need I say that it wanted to defeat me. Pulling up a video it looked simple enough and so I remarked, “Oh, I can do this, just do what he did in the video”. It was harder than I thought. What should have taken the one minute and thirty-four seconds suggested in the video it took me an astounding forty-seven minutes. Yes, you heard correctly, “forty-seven minutes”!! Who has that kind of time? Yet it also reminded me of how frustrating it can be when we are admonished to do what Jesus did.
We have a book, the Bible, God’s holy word filled with instruction on how to live a life representative of Christ. No matter how many times I’ve read it I find that I have not perfected the charge to be like Jesus. But just like that fitted sheet, I refuse to give in or give up. It takes persistence, an attitude of fortitude, the courage to go up against adversity, and the desire to be what we have been called to be, children of the most high God. Even when we don’t get it right God’s mercy and favor gives us opportunity to try again.
Who would have ever thought that you could get a message from God by folding a fitted sheet?
